About
Dr Ishtar Mahdi BDS (NCL) MFDS (GLAS)
Sleep Medicine & Aesthetic Dentist
I am a sleep medicine and aesthetic dentist with a particular interest in holistic and preventative care - treating the person, not just the teeth.
I graduated from Newcastle Dental School in 2011 with clinical merit and went on to earn my Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2012. Early in my career I gained broad clinical experience across dental and general hospitals, including head and neck surgery, before moving into practice. That grounding gave me a deep appreciation for how closely oral health connects to overall wellbeing.
What distinguishes my approach is a commitment to finding the root cause rather than managing symptoms in isolation. Sleep apnoea, for example, is frequently an unrecognised driver of bruxism and jaw pain - and addressing it conservatively, without surgery, can achieve results that treating the teeth alone never would. This joined-up thinking underpins everything I do.
Sleep medicine dentistry and the management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are my primary area of interest. If you have been told you snore, suspect you may have sleep apnoea, or are living with jaw pain, headaches, or teeth grinding, I would be happy to help. I work to identify what is truly driving your symptoms and offer effective, minimally invasive treatment tailored to you. Where cases are complex or require a broader approach, I work alongside a multidisciplinary team of specialists - so should a different or more intensive treatment pathway be in your best interest, you will be referred to the right hands without having to start your journey from scratch.
Alongside this, I offer a full range of aesthetic and general dental care. I have completed extensive postgraduate training in cosmetic dentistry and have been a certified Invisalign provider since 2018 - whether you are looking to straighten, brighten, or simply maintain a healthy smile, you will be well looked after. I see adult patients and have considerable experience with those who feel anxious about dental visits, as well as neurodiverse patients. A calm, unhurried environment where patients feel listened to is something I consider a fundamental part of good care, not an afterthought.
I welcome new patients at two London locations: Be Dental Clinic on Harley Street and Weston Park Dental in Crouch End. Please do get in touch to book a consultation or to find out whether I might be the right dentist for you.
